I want more people to know about the fascinating and unique insect photography of Kazutoshi Takeuchi. When we think of insect photography, most people probably imagine observing and photographing insects in their natural environment. Takeuchi, who held the "Gobu no Tamashii －Kai－" exhibition at the Nikon Salon (July 29 - August 5, 2024), is committed to the perspective of treating insects as "objects." Praying mantises, wasps, swallowtail butterflies, and ladybugs are integrated with plastic model kits, ties, matchboxes, and playing cards, and presented as bizarre objects. Some works are homages to artists such as René Magritte and Fontana, quoting the themes and compositions of their works. Poetic and somewhat surreal, Takeuchi's works seem to be well-suited to words. Perhaps they would make a good collection in the form of a photographic picture book.
